Cary Thessen’s Bequest to Support Future Communications Students at Lindenwood

Cary Thessen ’81 grew up in nearby O’Fallon, Missouri, and had been working in professional radio since he was 16 years old. “I wanted to continue my career and elected to go to Lindenwood because of the communications curriculum,” he said.

To ensure that his support continues for future generations, Cary has included a bequest to the University in his will. “I am able to give a percentage of my estate, and the University can benefit as my estate grows,” he says. “I hope to enhance the opportunities of students who attend Lindenwood.”

As a student, Cary played intramural volleyball. He became reengaged with Lindenwood once it achieved Division I status. “I have spent many days tailgating at Lindenwood football games and have also attended many alumni events.”

After a lifetime of working with people, Cary says he realized that communication is still the least exercised skill in business and personal relationships. “Not just formalized presentations and speeches but how to work with others to produce a product,” he says. “I’ve been blessed over my life, and I want to support the nurturing of communication skills.”

Now retired after a 30-year career in human resources, Cary encourages others to join him in providing future support for Lindenwood students. “We all have an opportunity to leave a legacy after our lives,” he concludes. “Besides our families, the best legacy is giving something that can benefit others.”
