Joan Maupin ’63 Endows Scholarship Fund and Leaves Future Legacy Gift

Dr. Joan Maupin ’63 grew up about three hours south of campus in Bloomfield, Missouri. Her parents chose Lindenwood College for Women because of its solid academic reputation and the teaching of social graces. She earned her B.S. in home economics and continued her education at the University of Arkansas. There, she earned her master’s degree. It’s also where she met and married her husband.

Passionate about education, Joan completed her doctorate in vocational education and accepted an opportunity at Murray State University. Joan enjoyed a successful career, first as an associate professor. She later changed careers and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she joined a firm of financial and investment advisors. “Six years later, I opened my firm in Nashville: Maupin Financial Services,” she says.

Joan’s unending commitment to education led her to give back to Lindenwood. In addition to annual gifts endowing a scholarship fund to support female students in any degree program, Joan has also included a bequest in her will to ensure that her support for Lindenwood students continues beyond her lifetime.

“I was inspired by my desire to support the next generation by providing opportunities to achieve their educational goals,” Joan says. “I also feel it is important to support Lindenwood because it provided many varied opportunities for me to attain my education goals.”

Joan encourages others to consider the legacy they could leave to support future Lions. “For me, it is important to give back because I have been blessed,” she says. “I have stood on the shoulders of the women who came before me. I have been encouraged to continue when I wanted to give up, so I want to encourage other women to follow their dreams with the highest education level they can attain and maximize their potential.”
